A tradition for more than two decades in Roslindale is coming to an end this Halloween.
Mike Ercholano is known as the “Soup guy” since he’s been serving up cups of hot soup to trick-or-treaters for 22 years, along with some candy of course.
He says this will be his last Halloween serving soup since he’s retiring.
Ercholano says it just started as a simple idea to give kids some warm food while they went door to door for candy since many of them may skip dinner on Halloween.
“Normally it’s chilly out tonight and I give them the chicken soup to warm them up and give them something for their bellies for dinner,” said Ercholano. “Then they can eat all the candy they want.”

Word got out and now people come from all over to grab some soup on Halloween.
“We never know if it’s American chop suey or if it’s soup and it’s always a great tradition, my kids love it, I love it,” said Jennifer Rice, who lives in the neighborhood.
Lots of trick-or-treaters were sad to hear this will be his last year, but it was a good run.
Ercholano says he’s thankful to Dunkin Donuts for donating all the cups to serve his soup for many years as well as to the Roslindale food pantry for donating soup to him to serve recently.
